Suzanne Song is a painter of illusions. I met her while I was sitting the Robert Blackburn gallery during the EFA open studios weekend. Her art studio was just next door so after my shift I poked my head in and made friends. She works in meditative, monochromatic tones and likes to use the surface of whatever she's painting on as a visible layer in her work. She recently worked with Forth Estate (a NYC-based print publishing company specializing in limited edition works) and created an edition of two-colour screenprints on cherrywood veneer, which integrates the wood grain beautifully into a geometric, 3 dimensional illusion.
